BACKGROUND - THE DESIGNER:
The designer, Greg Elliott, based
in Auckland, New Zealand, has been sailing since 1966 and designing
yachts for over two decades. His design portfolio shows his diversity
and preparedness to re-examine concepts of how yachts should look
and perform with yachts such as Rager, Future Shock, Elliott Marine,
Coyote and Bushido coming to mind. In more recent years, Elliott has
moved from the racing scene to concentrate on "performance cruising"
with sixteen yachts of 16 metres or thereabouts, being built to Elliott
designs in the past few years. Some of which have had notable passages
(the serialised article in yachting world for April, May and June
1998 regarding the passage of Kotick may be remembered).

BACKGROUND - THE BUILDER:
The 1250 Tourer is being produced
by New Yachts, of which Peter Newman is the principal. Newman was
behind the building of the successful "Davidson 34" series
of yachts during the 1980s, Since forming an alliance with Greg
Elliott "New Yachts" has produced the Elliott 770, Elliott
96 and Elliott 11 designs in Australia.
Newman and has been offshore sailing
himself for thirty years, so that he brings both a technical and
practical viewpoint to the 1250 Tourer.
New Yachts in turn, has a relationship
with boat builders Blue Marine of Mordialloc, Victoria. Blue Marine
performed the actual construction work on the Elliott 770, 96 and
11 metre yachts and again has been engaged for the actual work on
the 1250 Tourer. The Blue Marine standard of build and finish is
very high as can be seen in both the demonstration 1250 Tourer and
in the Elliott 15 metre Pilot House design Moshio based at Sandringham
Yacht Club, Victoria.
